A chairde, start spreading the news: Shannon Gaels GAA together with Breezy Co-Op will bring back Gaelic Games to Breezy Point on Saturday, 7 June.
And The Wild Geese in NYC are calling out the troops to bolster this extraordinary expression of Irish sport and culture. Let's put together a team or two and show our support!
Here's what Shannon Gaels GAA has announced on its website:
"On June 7, for the second year in a row, Gaelic teams will compete at Breezy to win The American and Breezy Cups.
The day is being organized with the Breezy Point community. This all-day team building event will take place in the Breezy Point ball field, located in the heart of the community. All proceeds will go to the Breezy Point Co-Op and the Shannon Gaels "Field of Dreams."
The day's events will include fun seven-a-side Gaelic football competitions for novices who will complete for The Breezy Cup, while the more experienced players will compete for The Irish American Cup. There will also be a special program of team-building and entertainment for adults and kids followed by a barbecue.
Don't worry if your group has no Gaelic football experience. Our coaches will be on hand throughout the day to guide your team members through what promises to be a very special day. Your team will also get a chance to try its hand at hurling, the fastest game in the world.
We warmly invite you to bring a team of work colleagues, family and friends together to be a part of this unique day — all for a wonderful cause."
We will meet at 10a at the ballfield to sample some matches and take in a coaching seminar, along with some photo ops. At 11a, we'll move on to face painting, music from a DJ, and a barbeque. So please bring along the kids — of all ages.
At noon, the matches resume, with the semis, finals and an U-16 (under 16) tournament.
Some of us will have to leave then, but the schedule for the rest of the day includes:
3-4p, Presentation of Trophies / Photos
4-8p, Live Music
And, all day, a bake sale spearheaded by the children of Breezy Point.
