Dear Ger, I will do a full profile when I have time, maybe later today. My father came to the USA in 1928 from Ireland, landing at Ellis Island. Prior to that, he had served as a member of the Irish Guards in the British Army and as a detective sergeant, criminal division, in the Guards. He had little material success here, and returned to Ireland to die. He is buried in the family plot in Ballinasloe, County Galway, RIP.
I was a journalist from 1974 until 2009 with The Associated Press, from which I am now retired. I am an Orthodox priest with L'eglise Orthodoxe d'Europe, Eparchy of Canada, under Archbishop Andrei SP Brennan, officer commanding, Royal Canadian Navy.
Brennan allows us to wear kilts for formal wear. He is a member of Clan Macgregor, in fact, laird of one of its septs. I wear a clergy tartan, as I am Irish, not Scots, although all we Celts are interrelated by DNA to some extent.
I was raised Roman Catholic and remained with that Church, not always faithfully, until after my first wife died in 2005. Then I was ordained Orthodox because of slight theological differences.

PS: Just FYI, although Orthodox, I use a Celtic rite for Mass.
By the way, I am sort of the equivilent of a monsignor, that is why I am the very reverand. But despite those titiles, unless one is a bishop, the proper form of address is "father." Unless we're discussing church matters, in this group, just plain Danny is fine. I an Irishman like most of you, using that in a gender neutral sense, and don't claim any special rights or privileges for being in the clergy.
