My bloodlines are connected with Buttevant! My GG Grandfather lived at a place called Grange and married at St Mary's church in 1841. His second son John was a well known Nationalist associated with Parnell and William O'Brien. Have you delved into your family's history? We miss Ireland even though we only lived there for six months in 2005 esp. those Dublin Bay Prawns or the Galway Oysters.

    hi,

If one is o believe ones parents - they traced the nagles -ance at the end of the 100 year war they were originially english tossed out of france at the end of the 100 year war. Too troublesome for england, they sent them to ireland. One went north - nangles as they are now known - the others in munster and the south. They were know as "anglos" - it became "de anglos and on to de nogla, then to nagle." Buttervant, the main camp/town of the anglos was originally got its name from the french poussee avant - push forward - became a nickname pousavant - to buttervant.

Of course it may be all bullshit - an uncle spent literally years, 20 of themĀ  - a retired irish civil servant in dublin castle, yes the revenue - he even found a lady-inwaiting with Marie Antoinette was a nagle...

    Tkare,
