Island of Ireland Peace Choir in Messines, Belgium

Messines - I had the privilege to travel to Messines with the Island of Ireland Peace Choir last weekend. This is our story.Don Mullan, author, humanitarian and Christmas Truce ambassador, stood in front of two graves in Messines, Belgium. On the left was Private T Delaney of the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, who died on Christmas…See More

Hail the Rise of the Irish 'Sidepreneur'

They say the best business is grown in a recession -- where labour, rents and expectations are cheap, but equally venture capital, support and credit is short. To straddle that gap comes the new sidepreneur -- someone who has the idea and drive to create their own business, but is not quite ready to quit the day job yet.Eoin Costello, CEO of Start-up Ireland,…See More

Presentation Arts Centre in Enniscorthy is the most perfect building. An old convent, the conversion to secular building retains the stained glass windows and ornate carved wooden beams arching overhead. When one walks into the hall, it is breath-taking, literally, in…

O'Brien Press Prospers By Championing Intrinsic Value of Books

In the 1940s it was tough being a communist in Ireland. All card carrying members were followed by the Special Branch, tended to be boycotted by the establishment and were refused jobs. Thomas O’Brien had returned from fighting in the International Brigade in Spain against Franco. As a vocal and proud communist, and poet, he was faced with certain unemployment. Perhaps influenced by Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia, he…

Jillian, delighted to have you as a member. Failte. Looking forward to learning your colorful Irish story, as, with you, we explore the epic heritage of the Irish ... worldwide. BTW, do you work as a publicist? If so, with what focus?

Hello Gerry

I'm still here on the ole sod but came across the site through twitter. I am a writer, journalist and accidental activist. I was the first female bankrupt in Ireland this year under the new Insolvency laws. I also changed the law with regard to bankrupts running for public office - and then went on to run for Europe in Ireland South. I am passionate about telling the truth about what is happening to Ireland as a result of the financial crises.

cheers

Jillian
