Hi, Sheila.
Just wanted to say welcome! Glad you've joined us in the early days of this blossoming little Irish community. Hope you'll come back here often and join in on the conversations / competitions, etc. I saw your comment on the Angela's Ashes discussion where you said your roots are in Limerick. How much do you know about your ancestors from there? Take a few minutes at some point and tell us your own "Irish story" in a blog post here. Other members love reading about one another's backgrounds.
Welcome aboard, Sheila!
~ Ryan
Know my roots well Ryan. Visit family in Limerick. Some other bios I liked are Kirwan's Green Suede Shoes, Maura Mulligan's, The Call of the Lark. Older ones would be Peg Seiers and The Islandman of Aran Island fame. I'm reading author Frank O'Connor's bio now.
Funnily enough, Sheila, I was just looking at a copy of 'The Islandman' in our local bookshop here this evening. I believe the author, Tomás Ó Criomhthain, was from Great Blasket Island in Kerry, correct? I've wanted to get a copy and read it, and almost bought it tonight. I'll return at a later time and snatch it up.
You sound like quite an avid reader. Would you be willing to review a book every now and then here? At some point in the near future, we have plans to set up a book club for members of The Wild Geese. Would that be something that would interest you?
every now and then would be fine. I'm also currently reading The Famine Plot by Tim Pat Coogan! Yes I'm an avid reader. That's one description of me in my yearbook.
