I have two files of traced ancestry back into published records of ancient Irish history. You will not find them on Ancestry.com or the internet. These are from work done by individuals that I have had as students in a genealogy class. Be glad to share as you can use as a guide for your own.

Don't see any O'Rourkes on there, Dee (other than one woman who married in to the O'Connor line).

How very generous of you to share these files. I don't have a Scully or O'Connor that I know of yet, so I don't suppose they would do me a lot of good.  :-(

Thanks for sharing. I'm searching my Millin family in Dublin, early 1800's. I have a Thomas Scully marrying Margaret Mellin at St Mary's Pro on 11 Jan. 1864. I wonder if she could be a Millin & can I find her parents names,

Best wishes

Joan Millin Reilly

Funny this genie belongs to a Robert Thomas Knickerbocker Scully who now resides in Atlanta, GA. His g grandfather was Patrick, of course, LOL and married into the Keogh family who were from Armagh. Patrick was probably born 1830 ??? Ireland and immigrated to Rockland County, NY to have a child born there in 1856. Here is the Scully which goes out into eternity. They are all going to come from these same roots at some point

I am looking for O'Connor info, but later in the line than what you have.My furthest back relative in the O'Connor line is my Grandfathe Michael J O'Connor from Tuam ,Galway.(?) In the 1920's.If you have anything like that laying around...LOl

In 1049, when Aedh O'Connor defeated Amalgaid ua Flaithbertaigh, King of Iar Connacht, the O'Connor Kings became Kings of all Connacht, O'Connor built a castle at Tuam and made it his principal stronghold. This event was directly responsible for the subsequent rise in the importance of the town. Its position dominated the Iar Connacht heartland of Maigh Seóla. It was however in the 12th century that the town became the centre of Provincial power during the fifty-year reign (1106–1156) of Turlough Mór O'Connor, (Tairrdelbach mac Ruaidri Ua Conchobair). He also brought Tuam its most prominent status as seat of the High King of Ireland which he achieved by force of arms during his long career.

Sorry the tree I have has them immigrating into Va and then to Tennessee

Thanks for this regardless.I'll find them.

On the list for Scully, I found Roger Scully/Mary Maher.  Tobias Purcell married their daughter Judith Scully, they were, as far as I can figure out, the grandparents of William -- my 3x great-grandfather.  I have not been able to verify the information as to whether Tobias and Judith were the parents or grandparents, although one book that I was able to find said that they are buried at the church at Timogue.  William, a solicitor ended up in Dublin, from there his son George emigrated, ending up in Nebraska -- I have good verification to William -- just not further back as I have not been able to find anything but mentions in books, etc.  I know there is a connection to Nicholas, but can't figure it out.

Tobias Purcell b 20 jan 1751 bap 16 Feb 1751 - Saint Peter and Saint Kevin, Dublin, Dublin, Ireland, Married 3 mar 1783 to Judith Scully. Their children: Joseph (1784), James (1785), Edmund (1786),Tobias (1787), Alice (1788), Marianne (1789).

Thank you for your reply -- which is very interesting -- some dates and names are the same, but many are different.  I have Tobias, b. 12 Sept 1739 at Timogue, m. Judith Scully 3 Mar 1783, d. 8 Dec 1825 -- children Joseph John 1784-1857, Elizabeth 1785, Fanny 1786, *William 1787-1844, James 1788-1850, Tobias 1789, Marianne 1791-1864, Edward 1792-1859 (he was an Admiral in the Royal Navy), and Alice 1802-1819

I think I need to go back to the drawing board -- *William married Henrietta Maxwell (I've not been able to find where or when, although her father was Henry Maxwell and I think he had connections to Dundalk) and they lived in Dublin, where he was a solicitor and connected with the Queen's Custom House.  I have found baptismal records for their children at St. Georges, along with the burial records for William and Henrietta -- except for the Judith Scully marriage, it  sounds like my Tobias is a different one.  I have never been able to figure out what put them at Timogue and then a couple of the sons to Dublin.  I have family photos and records back to Henrietta and William, and a photo of an elderly Tobias, who was identified as William's father.
