Directed by Rebecca Daly and starring Antonia Campbell-Hughes

I saw this a few months ago on television. Has anyone else seen it and what did you think of it? It was a little confusing, but I think part or most of that was intentional: to convey the sleep-walking main character's perception "as her grasp on reality begins to unravel" (Irish Film Institute - IFI).

Susan, hadn't heard of this one. Sounds interesting. Is it set in Ireland? If so, where? Tell us a bit more about the set-up. And where do you get to watch films such as this?

This is from The Guardian: "Set in the unforgiving surroundings of the Irish region of Offaly, the film is dominated by dour factory scenes, a lonely bedsit and a sinister wood. It is unlikely, the director admits, to win a vote of thanks from the Irish Tourist Board."

In spite of this, It was being promoted by the Irish Film Board:

Gerry, I had trouble finding out much info about the movie. I saw it on one of my local (Israel) satellite TV channels. I often go through the listings for upcoming movies, and if something has an Irish setting or theme, I'll record it to watch when I have the time. I've also seen Hunger, Kisses, Once, The Guard, and Ondine in the last year or so. I hadn't heard of any of them before. I just read the description (in English!) that the movie channels provide and decide to record. I mean, I'm not some film buff who reads or seeks out reviews (I haven't bought a paper in years), but after I've recorded a movie I might go online and try to find out a bit more before sitting down to watch it.

My thanks, then, for keeping an eye out for avant-garde Irish films for us, Susan.

Thanks, Gerry. I don't know how avant-garde they are, but I'll do my best! I'm very happy to contribute to this discussion.
