Hi, I'm Ada Kornmeyer, my mothers maiden name was Dougherty both of her great grandfathers on her fathers side came from Ireland prior to 1850. William Dougherty came from Derry and Joseph Ferguson came from Dublin. In 2007 my sisters and our husbands travel to Ireland for a little research and a wonderful trip to discover what it means to be Irish. While the genealogy search didn't produce any results,it was a wonderful opportunity to see not only the areas of family origins but as much of the rich countryside from south of Dublin all up the west side of Ireland and parts of Northern Ireland where the Dougherty name is so abundant. I continue to search for records of our ancestors in Ireland and have a blog telling my genealogy stories. Since I live and work in the USA as a building designer only my spare time is allocated to the joy of researching family. Hoping to connect with cousins on the beautiful green isle and elsewhere.

They are located in Merrion Square in Dublin.

The genealogy site Find My Past have just put on-line Irish Dog Licences. (from 1865-1912). They are a mine of information.

Hello Everyone,
My name is David Joyce and I just joined The Wild Geese. My Irish story is long one, but its worth telling. I first became interested in Ireland as a child when I heard Irish Music and saw for the first time, Scottish kilts. I know that kilts are primary used in Scotland, but, never the less I thought they were Irish at the time :}. From that point on a seed of curiosity was planted, especially when I learned that Joyce is an Irish surname.
As the years passed I dug into my Irish Genealogy until I took the next step and took a DNA test to trace my ancestry. Interestingly enough, even though I can't trace my Joyce ancestors to Ireland the Y-DNA results show that my family did come from Ireland. In fact, family tradition says that they came from Ireland. Oh yes, I have a Kelly line from Ireland as well!
Years earlier, I started to study Irish Gaelic. Later on, I became a translator and now I own a small online service to tutor students of Gaeilge. So, as you can see, I take my Irish pride to the extreme :}.

Try contacting the RSAI (the royal society of antiquaries of Ireland)
They are located in Merrion Square. Dublin. I found them very knowledgeable and friendly. I believe the Joyce sept were based in Connaught originally.
