A song I learned from my father, who learned it from his father.

Maith thú, John! Did you know that Cruiskeen Lawn was a favorite of Mozart? He even worked it in to Gloria Excelsis, one of his masses

I am definitely going to have to go back and listen to that section with a different ear. Or is this another Sig Spaeth moment, like saying Yes, We Have No Bananas is based on the Alleluia Chorus

It was something that I carried away from my musicology class back twenty-five years ago. There is a refrain in which is sung: "We'll quaff the well-filled jug."... which my professor said was Mozart's nod to Cruiskeen Lawn

Fascinating, Bit. If one does a Google search on this topic, any substantive results?

Gerry, other than a passing reference to it, not so far as I can find...I will have to dig through my dusty footlockers and see if I can find my notes...Packrat that I am, I might still have them
