Hi everyone! I am a third generation member of an Irish immigrant family in the US. My paternal grandfather and grandmother (Michael Joseph Powers and Bridget (Josephine) Moore) immigrated to the US in 1907 and 1909 respectively. Other siblings also emigrated (Susie Power, John Power). I started doing some genealogy research on ancestry.com a couple years ago and came upon your site in the process. Various family members of my generation have visited the Kilmoreen, Adare and Patrickswell areas where my grandparents originated and have met some relatives but would like to know more. We also have lost touch with some that we met, including Coughlin family members (one married Katte Powers, my grandfather's sister. I live outside Washington DC and work in DC. I have kids in college and high school (almost done!) and enjoy gardening, pets (black lab, cats, rabbit), reading, learning to knit and crochet (not almost done!), and family time. I visited Ireland once many years ago and would love to go back; meanwhile learning all I can from here. Have a large extended family also interested in finding more about family roots in Ireland, with whom I am sharing info as it comes up. Thank you for having this site and support for all looking.

Susan,

If you haven't already, you might want to take a look at Irelandxo.com and become a registered member.  Irelandxo is a reverse genealogy program. You select your Province, County and Parish of interest. If there is a volunteer liaison assigned to that area, they will do some research and leave a reply. Don Drasch is the Volunteer Liaison for the Washington DC area on our side of the water. I am the volunteer liaison for the Southwestern United States

Hi, Susan.

Just wanted to extend a bit of a belated welcome here to The Wild Geese.  Hope you've had the opportunity to look around the site to see what's on offer.  Of course, there is even more to come.  It's a great little burgeoning community with loads of interesting folks enjoying the discussion of all-things-Irish.

Hope to hear more about your own Irish connections here in the days ahead.  Maybe a blog post or some photos you may have?

Thanks, Susan ... and welcome aboard!

~ Ryan
