Oh yes, dogs are pack animals and simply must have a friend! But I will say with our pair, we spent the first year establishing that we ( not they) were the pack leaders! We had two shepherds before this pair, who died within three months of each other. The void from the loss of the first one was so great, I told my husband he could either lock me up somewhere or get me another puppy. Then the second one died, and back we went! The void from the loss of the first one was so great, I told my husband he could either lock me up somewhere or get me another puppy. Then the second one died, and back we went! I DO NOT recommend two puppies at once, but we're in good form here now. It's been constant and consistent training, but now things have settled in and it's been worth it: you get the dog you deserve, so to speak. I'm pleased Madb has "second sight!"
You've got a matched pair of…tag:thewildgeese.irish,2015-09-30:6442157:Comment:1713452015-09-30T19:51:39.717ZJoe Gannonhttps://thewildgeese.irish/profile/JoeGannon

A pair of dogs is the way to go, IMO. I know it's not possible for everyone to have more than one dog, but I always feel a bit sorry for dogs in "one dog families."
A pair of dogs is the way to go, IMO. I know it's not possible for everyone to have more than one dog, but I always feel a bit sorry for dogs in "one dog families." When you have two dogs they have some much fun with each other that it's hard to imagine a dog living without another one. When our last older dog passed a way about 3 years ago Finn was an "only dog" for just a little while. Watching him lie down every night in front of the door expecting his big brother to come home, and moping around on our walks in the woods, convinced us to get another dog very quickly. Thus Finn's new "little" (though nearly 30 lbs heavier now) sister Medb arrived on the scene.

You've pegged both of them, especially Medb. She's got to be the most affectionate dog I've ever seen. She's also newly "sighted." She was born with cataracts and had gone nearly blind and we had surgery done to correct it. They have sight immediately after the operation and can go right home. Watching her amazement as she looked all around this brand new big world while we were driving home brought a tear to both our eyes.
Now we're talking, Joe! And I…tag:thewildgeese.irish,2015-09-30:6442157:Comment:1716022015-09-30T19:25:27.907ZClaire Fullertonhttps://thewildgeese.irish/profile/ClaireFullerton

Now we're talking, Joe! And I, too, had the wherewithal to name our two German shepherds with Irish names: behold, Ronin ( 18 month old male- spelled atypically, of course, yet the Irish sentiment is there) in the foreground, and Ceili ( almost 2 year and female) behind. In this picture, the pair had been howling in two-part harmony at a passing siren on the Pacific Coast Highway. They kept it up for 10, ear-splitting minutes until I grabbed my camera! I clearly see the personality in…
