The Irish Workshop had the honor of attending the 2016 Dublin Horse Show, and we must say we were absolutely tickled pink with the experience!

We made sure that our stand was chock-full of handmade Irish products, and we spent the whole five days of the Dublin Horse show promoting Irish craft, talking to fellow craft-enthusiasts, and generally spreading the word about what we do.

We loved meeting some of our customers face-to-face, and we were enthused to see the interest that people had in our philosophy.

Of course, since our website boasts the work of over 85 makers (pointed out in our last blog post here), it would be pretty much impossible to include every maker in our stand. Therefore, we chose to highlight the work of five of our illustrious makers to represent The Irish Workshop and what it stands for. Here, let us introduce you to them:

Hello everyone!

Please allow us to introduce ourselves: we are The Irish Workshop, an online marketplace for authentic Irish gifts made by craftspeople and artists from all over Ireland. The Irish Workshop was founded with one idea in mind: to provide people around the world with high-quality Irish gifts, and to allow Irish makers to share their work with the larger Irish diaspora. You won’t find any stereotypes here — just authentic Irishness.

Want to know more? Here, let us introduce you to some people:

We begin, of course, with our fearless leader: Charmaine Kenny. Charmaine founded The Irish Workshop back in 2015. With a B.A. from Trinity College Dublin and an MBA from Stanford, Charmaine is more than ready to take the world by storm, one Irish community at a time!

Oh, and did we mention that she is the 2009 International Rose of Tralee?

Okay, but what sort of makers are actually featured on the site? Glad you asked. We currently have 85 makers selling their products on our site, and our community is ever-growing. Here is a small sampling of our makers:

Áine Knitwear:

Situated in Co. Clare, Ireland, Áine Knitwear started as a collection of woolen mills in Anne McConnell’s backyard. Nowadays, she is creating award-winning collections of Irish knitwear which are enjoyed all around the world.

Anne particularly prides herself on the ability of her pieces to merge the old and the new — while her designs are steeped in the traditions of Irish knitwear heritage, they are also created using innovative techniques which give them a fresh, distinctive look without abandoning their Irish roots. Sounds like the perfect combination to us!

Tracy Gilbert:

Based in Dublin, jewelry designer Tracy Gilbert was one of the first makers to partner with The Irish Workshop, and because of that we think it’s safe to say that we have a bit of a soft spot for her. However, her work doesn’t need us to vouch for it — it speaks for itself!

Herself a Gaelgoir (i.e. fluent Irish-speaker), Tracy makes sure that each piece she creates is steeped in her Irish heritage. Her collections are inspired by the rich artistic and mythological history of Ireland, with subjects ranging from the legend of the Children of Lir to the marking of the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising. Needless to say, receiving a piece of Tracy’s jewelry is like receiving a piece of Ireland itself.

Chris McMorrow:

Finally, we turn to Chris McMorrow. Chris is a self-taught artist who specializes in painting the iconic images of Dublin, his native city. According to Chris, the main focus of his painting style is to capture and portray light and its effect on the landscape around it. Given this treatment, well-known landmarks become new again to the viewer, as each piece seems to have a distinct sense of nostalgia attached to it.

Chris’s unique combination of style and subject have led to his paintings being extremely popular with both corporate and private collectors, and his work is enjoyed by lovers of Ireland from all around the world.
