Glasnevin Cemetry. The grave always has fresh flowers. I believe it is not far from the visitor centre. Tim Pat Coogan has the best biography on him.

Bill, tell us about Collins' birthplace -- what's there -- a museum. Colins was raised in Clonakilty, County Cork, one of about 10 children, on a fairly prosperous farm, I seem to recall.

I believe that cross was erected in 1940 and the Taoiseach of the time, Eamonn DeValera, would only allow one mourner to be present.

no museum. the shell of the house(hut) that his parents built. it was basically destroyed by fire. it's in the middle of nowhere and you find yourself imagining the dreams that took him to where he rose. what's there is well maintained as is only fitting. there is a newer old farmhome right next to it. even tho there is little to keep you there, i was loathe to leave.

get directions. i was on the way from kinsale to inchigeelah and had gone through clonakilty when i just happened to see a small sign pointing to the north. it's a ways in, past a feed mill and on a mere lane that pretty much dead ended after the site.

i went back to clonakilty and inquired everywhere about post cards. none available. i was told the gov't tries to hush hush Himself and while the historical site is there, its not bandied aboot. did see an armored truck with about 10 soldiers carrying ak47s picking up the cash from a brit bank. gave me pause.

anyone in the states going to milwaukee for mcfest this weekend. it's a grand gathering of musicians, dancers and drunks. i've never missed in 30 years and i haven't had a wee drop in 20. that's how much fun it is.
