Gerry, I can get to the ICS profile through a non-member computer.  Of course my material is stored on my computer.  Any way to allow a member computer to sign in to the ICS profile so that I can add content?  A member page has no sign in capability.  Thanks.

  • Gerry Regan

Yes, to access your profile (aka member page) from any computer that provides Internet access, you log in using the e-mail you (or I provided for you) selected, along with the password, using the log-in box in the upper right-hand corner.

Just to let you know, the book arrived in yesterday's mail, I should get started with it this weekend.

  • Gerry Regan

Thank you Gerry. And yes my family is recovering from Sandy, we were displaced for seven months but are back home now. Many others are not so fortunate and rebuilding is a very slow process but most are committed to returning home. I look forward to exploring this great site.

  • Gerry Regan

Delighted to hear this, Donna. My godparents, Joe and Helen Lynch, lived in Breezy in their retirement years. Uncle Joe worked for the Board of Ed most of his adult life. Did you happen to know them. I think Joe died about 15 years ago, and Helen may still be alive, but not likely in Breezy.

    Hi Gary
Good to hear from you. Just saw your message and am on way way to bed as it is 23.20 here. I look forward to linking up later. I was a Capuchin but now I am working in the Dublin Diocese as a school chaplain in the Tallaght area of Dublin

Thanks Gerry.....as far as my link to Ireland my Grandparents came to the states in 1930's from County Kerry and settled in the Bronx.  Dingle and Lixnaw is where they were from.  Made it back to visit there in mid 90's with my folks. Loved it and wish I could visit again...in the meantime just enjoying sites like this one..thanks again!!

Gerry...here's some nice feedback from a visitor to my etsy site:

I think your items are fascinating.
    I guess my question is this;
Would your eggs survive shipment to America?I followed your link from a site called the Wild Geese.
I want to show my wife your items and I am sure I will be in touch.
    Once again, thank you.
    Dan

Hi Gerry- thank you for the warm welcome! I just moved to Richmond. I have been living in Sligo half the year and I am originally from the Bronx. My grandfather was Matty Regan from Magherafelt. Maybe we are related. :)

Thanks Ger for your lovely words on my music. It's lovely being part of this group. I would love to take part in the discussion tomorrow evening on JFK. But I don't know yet if I can. After the performance of my music for JFK there are a number of other events with a lot of officials from the US Embassy here and others. I don't know if I will be back in my hotel in time to connect.

I wish you every success. I will be honoured to be only a few miles from where the Kennedy forefathers lived and to perform my music from where they emigrated and in honour of JFK. This is my music about the famine ship The Dunbrody that transported to many to the US especially from Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny.

    https://soundcloud.com/vincentjohnkennedy/the-dunbrody

The picture was taken with me conducting the music beside the ship and in the place the performance will take place tomorrow.

    Hi, Gerry -
No, afraid the only Gibbonses I know are in Leitrim Village and another whose married name is Gibbons in Drumshanbo (I think).  I am a transplanted New Yorker (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan & The Bronx) who's 'only' been here in Leitrim for 17 years (still a blow-in).
    Kind regards!
    Mary

    Hi Gerry,

Thanks for the welcome on board.

From the little I've read of you on this site it sure seems like you have had an intriguing quest on your journey to discover your family roots. Many children given to adoption would have found themselves in exactly your same situation when they came to that age of discovery. I guess most would have chosen not to pursue the genealogy trail. As a smitten follower I imagine that you too are discovering what a vast reservoir of resources there are out there especially on the internet.

I come from the townland of Knockafubble halfway between the villages of Emyvale and Glaslough in north County Monaghan. I live about a mile as the crow flies from the Blackwater river which divides Co Monaghan from Co Tyrone and also Northern Ireland from Rep of Ireland. Glaslough is unique in that it is home to the Leslies of Castle Leslie where the marriage of Beatle Paul Mc Cartney and Heather Mills took place. Emyvale and Glaslough villages are just 3 miles apart and the Leslie estate stretches to the border as well.

What makes this neck of the woods so unique is the fact that the Leslie estate is also bordered by Tynan Abbey estate on the Northern Ireland side which is in Co Armagh and by the Caledon estate in in Co Tyrone. Three estates still in the hands of its original owners in three separate Counties, in two separate countries (politically) with two separate currencies, two separate EC member states.

As for my own family, we have resided for as far back in Knockafubble as I can find in a direct line to 1796.

Thank you for the welcome Gerry.

My mom was not a Stones fan and I'm pretty sure my dad wasn't either. I've asked her where she got my name from but she says she can't remember. :-)

    Hi Gerry,

Thanks for the welcome to Wild Geese. In yur email you asked me about  my personal Irish history, along with my experience ferreting out the stories of others.

I have been a professional genealogist based in Dublin since 1990. My background can be found at: www.heirsireland.com. My main area of practice is probate genealogy, locating rightful heirs in iinternational ntestate estates. I also spend a lot of time in the GRO research room in Dublin so I have extensive experience in civil registration. I have lectured on Irish genealogy in Ireland, the U.S., Canada and  the U.K. My husband and I will be speaking in Waltham, Massachusetts at Celtic Connections conference in August (15th and 16th).

I'd be happy to answer brief questions as needed.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for Joe's e-mail.  We'll see if he can help.

I'm enjoying the fact that many members live in Ireland.  When I first joined just recently I thought all the members were strictly from USA.  That's a lovely surprise.

Just reading your page from 2011.  Damien Shiels was asking about an actor who worked with John Ford, Arthur Shields.  Being a movie buff like my folks.  He was the brother of that adorable Barry Fitzgerald , who along with John Wayne and the still beautiful Maureen O'Hara filmed The Quiet Man.  I believe she lives in Idaho near her Grandson.

Hi Gerry, I've just joined and am trying to get a feel for The Wild Geese.I saw that you 'liked' my joining so I thought I'd start with you. I'm a journalist - one of my editors was actually a Gerry O'Regan, so it seems like I know you already! I've written four novels set in Ireland (three based around the War of Independence). I see that you gave a talk on the Christmas Truce, which tells me you like your history. I have a blog - historywithatwist.wordpress.com - which you might or might not like. I live in Greystones, Co Wicklow and am married, with four children. That's enough about me. Hope we can stay in touch. All the best, David

Thank you Gerry for the help you are giving to the people entering the contest. I lost my blog and finely found it.  When I updated it somehow I sent it to 1999. I don't know how I did that but I guess I am out of the contest because I see it twice, although I only put it in once. I can't erase it because it will erase both of them. anyway thank you.  I also read about how you found your mother. My heart goes out to you and I pray she will change her mind. NancyUSA

    Gerry,

I have a friend who was brought up in Belfast, and he has experienced "the parades" first hand and reports that the Orange Order parades are a sanctioned opportunity for loyalists to incite mayhem and cause violence and destruction of property. He has had very real, very bad, very visceral experiences. He is very educated, thoughtful and reflective. I find him to be a most credible witness, and I think the parades should be stopped in the furtherance of peace.

    Best,

    Niamh

    Gerry,
Have you blocked me? The system will not allow me to "reply" or "send a message" on the discussion page for this topic.

Well, I couldn't go wrong as it was a Ken Loach film...it depicts the heart of Ireland and its people....I grew up in South Boston at a time when I did not know that people other than the Irish existed....those in the film and those I grew up with are one and the same.....the film embraced me....

Hey Gerry, we are not sure if my husband's people were Scots or Scots-Irish. I have done some work on them and it appears they may have immigrated quite early. There is so much more to learn. My father's people immigrated from Scotland to Ireland in the 1600's. Then from County Down to Pennsylvania in the early 1800's. My mother's people came from Cork and Kerry around 1880. Tell me more about your Irwin if you get the time. You never know...
