Thanks Ryan!  I'll check that out.  I recently discovered my Irish heritage.  The Hollingsworth family from Ballyvickcrannell, Armagh.  They came in the late 1600s or early 1700s to the U.S.  My 7th great gandfather was Samuel Hollingsworth and his father was Valentine Hollingsworth.  I just shared that for the great first name - ha.  Valentine's grandfather was born in England (that explains the English name) and died in Ireland in the 1599.  More reasons to come for a visit!

I have been in touch with you people because of my gg uncles ( born in Galway) who fought in the Civil War

and were soldiers from the Irish Brigade from Cambridge Ma,  The units joined up with the

NY Irish Brigade and were superb soldiers!!!

My Butler-Britt-Crotty families are from Clonmel, Co.Tipperary, McLaughlin-Doherty from Dunree Co.Donegal, Mulholland and Allingham from Antrim and Down, Brady and Fitzgerald from Co.Kildare, Harrington and O'Neill from Co. Cork, and Spillane,Sheehan and Cleary from Co. Limerick. Thanks to the efforts of my grandfather and great aunt, I'm fortunate to know their roots before immigrated to the US. I'm still searching for the Flanigan, Moloney (probably Tipperary) and McGovern roots. The quest continues. We visited beautiful Ireland in May, concentrating on the south and visiting many of my Butler roots, those Norman governors for over 600 years.Fascinating history. I was fortunate to have an article published in the July issue of "Irish Lives Remembered", p. 48, about my mother's McLauglins in Donegal.

Although I still live in Ireland I am interested in the stories of those that have emigrated over the decades. As a sculptor I work in Irish wood and in my personal work I am constantly inspired by our ancient history and mythology. Hi Ryan - Thanks for the welcome. I hope to get to WG more often. In regard to your question, Indiana has a rather large percentage of people w/ some Irish ancestry, often mixed with German and/or English, as most families here have been in the U.S. since the 19th century. Fort Wayne has two churches named after our patron saint. One largely serves the more recent immigrants from Mexico and Burma. The other, Saint Patrick's of Arcola, is clearly a Great Famine church, built c. 1850 for our people who were digging canals. When one uses the word "Irish" in Indiana, people immediately think of the University of Notre Dame, which is located in our diocese. Personally, I am a "half-narrowback," as it were. My mother was born in Offaly, and my father was Chicago Irish. I grew up in New York and have lived in Indiana for 15 years, where I teach history. Anyway, Thanks again and Erin Go Bragh.

We hope to return soon but had limited time in most areas since it was our first trip to Ireland. I loved the country and the people and can't wait to return!

Thanks for the welcome. We're a small group representing the Sheep's Head Way walking route in West Cork. It stretches from the end of the Sheep's Head peninsula to the early Christian settlement at Gougane Barra, and a post about the O'Sullivan's drew us here. Our area - Kealkill in particular - has very strong associations with the O'Sullivans, as well as with the story of the wild geese.

Thanks, Ryan. I do believe the job discrimination possibility is real. Many small business people would think twice about hiring a "Murphy" or the like, if they believed the worker would show up drunk or hung over on occasion.

I once dated a Jewish girl and had the misfortune of having her mother answer the phone one time (way before cell phones). She started yelling "beer drinkers" and launched into a tirade about the Irish..

Do understand now that there's a different connotation in Ireland for "Paddy."

I would just love to find my O'Donnell roots in Ireland so that I may come to Ireland with that information and feel the full purpose of the trip.  Not that I wouldn't love to come to Ireland just for the beautiful trip but it just would mean so much more to know where I came from.

Hello Ryan,  I see that I was made a member back in May, 2013, however, I was somewhat remiss in not getting back to you sooner!  We left for Ireland in the middle of June, & returned on Aug. 20, 2013.  My husband & I, spent over 2 months living in rented cottages from the North to the South! Hi Ryan, thanks for the welcome. I do not know the Conrad family in Tampa.  My family is in Jacksonville.  My parents, many years ago, used to live in St. Petersburg, just across the bay from Tampa.  And, I had a cousin who married a Judy and became Judy Conrad, but they are now divorced.  Interesting that there are a few of us around.  Do you know what heritage their last name is?  Mine is German, but it can also be English.  

I love your photo's, especially the ones with the horses.  Are they wild?  We have wild ponies here in Virginia on the Eastern Shore on Assateague Island and every summer they swim the ponies over to Chincoteague Island to auction off some of the herd so there won't be too many.  And, in North Carolina, not too far near the border with Virginia, we have wild ponies there too.  :-)

Unfortunately cannot read any more of message after you state what I guess is quite a hassle.Hate to bother you but can you explain how I can e-mail my photo to wild geese web.  I know I should know how but I just sent my photo to Gerry Regan and he has e-mailed it to me.  So it is on my computer.  Now What?  I need classes in all the technology associated with computers.  Thanks for any help.

Hello Ryan . Unfortunately I have deleted that email you sent me ; asking a a photo of me as a child. I cannot find any ; nooks and crannies all searched. I had a flood in my home 12 years ago and it is possible that they were lost at this time sorry .

Kelly may be emailing you about the same issue as I emailed this info to her when I realized that I had deleted your email .
