DESCRIPTION:IRISH SOCIETY AWARDS CEREMONY\nThe Irish Cultural Society 
 will present awards to thirty nine students from high schools in Nassa
 u County at its meeting on May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Garden City Libra
 ry, across the street from the Garden City Hotel.  The meeting is fre
 e and open to the public.\nThe students won awards for their essays en
 tered into the Society’s writing contest.  The writing project was 
 modeled after an assignment from the New York State English Regents Ex
 amination.  Entrants were asked to write a rhetorical analysis of a s
 peech delivered in 1943 by President of Ireland Eamon de Valera.  Fou
 r hundred and eighty-four entries competed for the Society’s thirty 
 nine prizes.\nAt the meeting, portions of winning entries will be read
  aloud.  President Martin Kelly will acknowledge the H.W. Wilson Foun
 dation for its sponsorship of the contest, and he will commend the tea
 chers of the winners for their teaching skills.\nThe list of all of th
 e names of the winners can be found on the Society’s web site, www.i
 rish-society.org.  The top nine winning papers will be on the web sit
 e by the end of May, a biography of Asneath Nicholson.\nThe libraries 
 of the schools participating in the contest will receive a copy of Com
 passionate Stranger by Maureen O'Rourke Murphy.\n\n\nFor more informa
