John Allister Mackinnon was a true son of the British Empire. He was born in 1892 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, where his Scottish father managed a factory. When he joined the Auxiliary Division of the RIC after serving in the British Army in WWI, he proved to be a vicious and dangerous enemy of the Republican movement. The Irish Volunteers vowed to revenge his killing of two young Volunteers on Christmas night 1920. They stalked him for months looking for their chance. That chance finally came on a golf course in Tralee in April, 1921. Read the story here:
