I recently saw this fun flowchart graphic from the folks at TheIrishStore.com.  I wanted to share it here for your enjoyment (you can click the image to enlarge it a bit, by the way).  Just to head-off any potential gripes about what it means to be Irish, it's clear to me that this is just a fun graphic designed to highlight some of the unique features and cultural aspects of Ireland.  With all the discussion recently here at The Wild Geese about inappropriate stereotypes, it was nice to see that although certain beverages are mentioned, over-indulgence and binge drinking are not promoted herein.

So, in the interest of having a bit of craic with this, how Irish are you according to this flowchart?  :-)

Oops! I hope you pointed out to them the serious grammatical error, Ryan.  Irish education is better than that.

And wasn't I just one little bet on the duration of a weddin' speech away from bein' 100% Irish. ;-)

This is cute.  After living here 3 years, I am 75% Irish (according to this totally accurate, scientific flow-chart.)  That's pretty good acculturation. :)  I like how your "Irishness" goes down if you are able to tan, haha!

After all that has been said here I can not believe you put this up. Will we ever make any progress. Play the music, speak the language, dance the dances leave cute to the others.

C'mon, Mr. Sutton ... there is nothing insensitive or demeaning in the graphic above.  Nothing encouraging binge drinking or anything of the sort.  Did you not read my plea under the graphic?  Can we not have a sense of humour about ANYTHING now????  This is a far, FAR cry from the inappropriate stereotypes we've been criticising here over the past weeks.  We need not go too far to the extreme in the other direction now and give people cause to say we are nothing but old "fuddy duddies" who can't laugh at anything.

We're all entitled to a little "cute" fun from time to time.  Not everything has to be 100% serious and scholarly.

You're free to think otherwise, but I think the vast majority of folks here in this community enjoy the opportunity for a little brevity from time to time.

Moreover, Mr. Sutton, what might appear "cute" on the surface with this graphic actually has no small amount of legitimate culture woven thereinto.  Most of the items on this little flowchart are indeed legitimate parts of past and present Irish culture.

Again, you're certainly entitled to believe otherwise ... but just about everyone here in Ireland would disagree with you.

I do not believe you speak for everyone I will ask if it is so next trip.

Come on, Eoghan, this is just harmless fun. There is nothing demeaning there. Life would be dull if we never stopped to have a laugh now and then.

My Mayo granny was a wise old bird and she used to say that if you put six Irish fellahs in a room together a fight would soon break out.  Sure, isn't that how it ends up that we are all speaking English on here?  We were too busy arguing when the wily Saxons and Normans came calling.
