'Emigrant Trail' -- Songs Evoking Lives of Immigrant Ancestors

Reading about Duffy's cut and some of the other Blog posts brought to mind Emigrant Trail, written and sung by my friend, Ray Doyle,

Do you have songs that come to mind when you are reading accounts of those who came before? Or perhaps I am the only one who has a virtual jukebox running 24/7 in my head.

Peter Jones' brilliant "Kilkelly, Ireland," with lyrics taken from letters a 19th century immigrant received from Ireland. I may be biased since my dad came from near Kilkelly in Mayo.

"The Emigrant's Farewell," the best version of which (in my opinion) is Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh's.

Both excellent songs...

Jim, I believe this is the song to which you refer...my favorite video version of it..it has been recorded by many legendary Irish singers

Ryan... I learned that song as the Cross of Ardboe...also a  favorite...Here is one of my favorite singers performing it.. Kate Crossan
