I grew up on Dublin's northside, in Stoneybatter - one of the five ancient roads to Tara. Now, I live in Wicklow, but still feel the draw of my old hometown. Here's why ...

A friendly nod, a bit of wit,

A pint of plain, that's part of it.

Canal bank walks and side-street strolls

In the shadow of Vikings and brave rebel souls

Where the sound of great music,

The sight of fine art

And the lines of our wordsmiths

Have all played their part

To make this Fair City the one we adore,

From the breadth of her mountains

To the sands of her shore.

It's a home for all cultures

A haven of sorts

And a place that runs deep in all of our hearts

Kind sir, did you pen this poem? Chills!

Comment by David Lawlor on June 24, 2015 at 1:08pm

It's not the greatest of poems, I know, but it's from the heart

Comment by Claire Fullerton on June 24, 2015 at 1:15pm

Oh yes it is; it's the greatest of poems. I bet you're tempted to tell me to give it over! In all seriousness, well done, David!

Thanks Claire. There was a little competition held in Dublin a couple of years ago, to express what was so great about the city. The poem was my entry at the time.It didn't win a prize, but I like it.

HAving been raised in Bray Co Wicklow ; I have some understanding of how you feel about Dublin ; I live across the water in Lancashire and long to walk the promenade .

The book I wrote about my Grandmother ; is a testament to my feeling about the small Town taht I live din ; which grew out of all proportion during the Celtic Tiger years

I live in Greystones, Mary, so I've walked the promenade in Bray many times. Your book sounds like an invaluable resource into an important time in Irish social history. I hope it achieves the success it deserves.
