Pilgrimage to Knock

On our trip to County Waterford that we won back in 2013, my husband Bill and I  decided to take some extra days and trek northwest while in Ireland, to see the Knock Cathedral in County Mayo. After passing through Waterford we headed up through Tipperary and Offaly before heading into the beautiful Counties of Galway and Mayo, which of course are part of the Wild West of…

New Figures on the Irish Who Fought for Canada in WW1

There's a very good article here from The Irish Times on new numbers from the Department of National Defence in Canada on the Irish who served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War 1, although the number is likely underestimated. There is a new history project initiative in Sligo to help…

Tweaked poem

I had a look at my God Bless Ireland poem and I decided to tweak it a little. I just wasn't happy with it and so I am re-posting it with a few changes.

God bless Ireland

In her patchwork dress so green

Her blue Atlantic eyes are smiling…

Another poem

I woke up at 4:45 am a few days ago and within 5 minutes, this was forming in my head so I got up and starting jotting down some the words. I went back to bed but the thoughts wouldn't let me sleep! So I got up again and by 7 am I had this tweaked and ready. I submit it for your thoughts.

God bless Ireland

In her patchwork dress so green

Her blue Atlantic eyes are smiling

Full…

'Ireland' -- A Poem by Fran Reddy

Your beauty has beguiled it seems,

Of mountainside patchwork fields I dream

Moody sky with clouds dark-clad

Give way to sun that warms hearts glad

Blooming pathways, hidden charm

The windswept way to hillside farm

Painted sheep dot sweeping hill

Listen to the swallows trill…

Looking for critique on a poem

Hey there all. Since my trip to Ireland with The Waterford Gathering this June past, I have been smitten with the place and have taken even more of an interest in all things Irish! I have even written a poem which although personal, I would like to have critiqued by someone literary. I am a complete amateur so don't expect anything amazing ; ) Would anyone here be willing to give it a go? Warning! - I am very sensitive so go easy on me as it is only meant to be personal, well, at least for…

Ok, here is the story of my winning a trip to Ireland!

Around St. Paddy's Day, some advertisements started popping up in my news feed on facebook (as I love all things Irish) and I noticed a couple that said "Win a trip for 2 to Waterford" in Ireland and as much as I don't like giving out my info to contests, I dearly wanted to see Ireland somehow and I figured it was worth the risk to possibly win a trip there. You can't win if you don't enter right? So I went to the site and you were…
