Global Irish Travel

Wanderlust. . . . It’s part of the Irish experience. Maybe it’s even in the DNA.But from the voyages of St. Brendan, through the exile of the earls, to the many waves of emigration, up to today’s globetrotting expats and tourists, the penchant for the Irish to want to see the world beyond is well known. Heck, Van Morrison even wrote song about it.With that in mind, we begin. The Wild Geese Global Irish Travel group aims to provide a vehicle for members to share their wisdom and experiences by…See More

Hiraeth no longer!

Since my last blog post in December, many changes have occurred in my life.  The most unforeseen being that I am now back 'home' in my beloved Vermont!  A new town, from my living here three years ago, but still within "The Green Mountains" which is where I resided before.  And HERE is where my heart lies - in the most blissful of states.  Hiraeth no more!  This is what I had longed for during those dark, long, winter days of my last posting.  Don't believe the old saying "You can never go home…See More

Hiraeth

I recently discovered the word "hiraeth" (HEER-eyeth) and the definition explained why I'd been feeling a bit lost these past months.  Do any of you know the word, and perhaps the feelings?

"(n.) a homesickness for a home to which you cannot return, a home which maybe never was; the nostalgia, the yearning, the grief for the lost places of your past."

This isn't just the holiday blues; I've felt like this for months, and this particular year was consistently stress-filled…

Wish to review Dame Judi Dench film "Philomena"

Being new to this site, I have not been able to 'respond' to mail sent to me from this site, specifically the invitation for  members to review the upcoming major motion picture "Philomena." (Whenever I click on a link that is supposed to allow me to send email to this site, my computer asks for information which I haven't the answer to...thus, trying this avenue.  If anyone reading this knows a direct email address where I may send my information…

Hullo Cindy,

My given name is Catherine... Once upon a time a 4-year-old girl was working the gate for her grandfather and his crew as they culled cattle for shipping... One of the cowboys asked Grandpa why I was there and "being a nuisance"... Grandpa said ..."She's earning her keep just the same as you. She might be a little bit but she's got a lot of try"... from then until I had my first son, I was called "Lilbit"... after having my son, the "Lil" was dropped...and now it's just "Bit"
