I was surprised to find that the UK is the only sovereign state to consume more Guinness than Ireland, and the third largest Guinness drinking nation being Nigeria, followed by the USA.  The United States consumed more than 950,000 hectolitres of Guinness in 2010.

Guinness has little or nothing to do with Dublin or indeed Ireland. Its only for marketing purposes that they use Dublin. They make it with Irish water but the other ingredients such as hops and barley are imported (why not support Irish crops?).

There are a lot of micro breweries about the place and its worth tasting their wares. An up an coming beer is Galway Hooker (from Roscommon).
