The Irish National Archives collection of Irish Prison Registers from 1790-1924 has been digitised and made available through the family history site findmypast.ie

The collection contains over 130,000 pages and includes more than three million records which provide information about each prisoner such as name, address, age, religion etc

findmypast.ie has exclusive access to these records for 5 years, after which time the National Archives of Ireland will be able to provide free access to the digitised collection.

More information can be found here: http://www.findmypast.ie/content/launch_of_the_Irish_prison_registe...

Other Irish family history sources which are currently being digitised and which will soon be made available to the public include the Military Service Pensions collection and the Bureau of Military History's collection of witness statements which were compiled in an attempt to provide a first hand "history of the movement for independence from the formation of the Irish Volunteers on 25 November 1913 to 11 July 1921". Family history researchers and historians may not need to wait for the formal release of the online collection of witness statements as many of these have already been digitised and made available through local history and city/county council websites. An example of this is the Limerick City Council which has made available the statements taken from County Limerick and County Tipperary witnesses via its website:
