This might be a Brendan Behan joke -- I heard it so long ago I can't recall. A local school choir in Ireland has been selected to sing at a Papal audience at the Vatican. The choir is very excited as the Pope arrives. The choirmaster gives the pre-arranged signal for the choir to arise and begin their choral greeting to Il Papa! All arise but one lad, Jesus Maloney, the choirmaster's assistant, who can't even string together two notes. Seeing this individual remained firmly seated, the Pope is indignant at what he perceives as a lack of respect for the Papal Office. 'My good man,' said the Pope to the choir master, trying to rein in his growing anger at such impertinence, "why is that young man remained seating?" The choirmaster turns to the Pope and replies: "Your Holiness, Jesus Maloney don't sing." The Pope impatiently responds: "Christ ... he can stand up!"

George Carlin on the Pope - I have as much authority as the Pope, I just don't have as many people who believe it.

My Aunt Mollie in Killarney was a great example of dry Irish humor. While vacationing there I told her one day that I'd taken a walk along a nearby country lane. She asked, "And did ye see anyone stranger than yerself?"
