Event Description

The tenth season of the stunning Celtic Tales storytelling sessions
begins in the Crane Bar, Sea Rd, Galway on Thursday May 4th. As always I'll be having great fun reimagining of the myths, folklore and urban legends of Ireland and Scotland. For this tenth year, I will also be telling a whole new bunch of tales of sorrow, horror and comedy. I
love all these stories. They are weird and wonderful, but no matter
how strange or scary they get there is always a little bit of common
sense somewhere in them. One of the new stories from Renvyle combines a gruesome tale of a severed head with marriage guidance advice.

Celtic Tales begins 4th May. Price 10 euro / 8 Euro concession. Every show is followed by a free Trad music session.

As well as the Celtic Tales sessions I am collaborating on a new
children’s folk tales book with illustrator Marina Wild. And I've recently finished running a three month course on Storytelling and
Social Inclusion in NUI Galway. This involved teaching second year
students the skills of storytelling as well as the importance of using
storytelling as a medium for creatively challenging exclusion and
opening up space for a diversity of voices to engage, create,
collaborate and grow. The students then headed out to Scoil Bhride and Scoil Croi Iosa where they had a lot of fun collaborating with
children to create new tales of wonder.

It was exhausting but great fun. There were so many incredible stories created over the three months by the students and the children. But one of the most inspiring part of the course was the swapping and collecting of memories from friends and family. That called for a lot of trust, respect and creativity – it was wonderful to see the students and children really getting into that.

It is this energy, creativity and respect for storytelling that I
endeavour to bring to the Celtic Tales sessions. I aim to make every
session a unique experience that will leave people awestruck. The
sessions are a great way to celebrate the huge range and diversity of
the story heritage of Ireland and Scotland.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIhSPagBsEk
